Every Marvel fan on Earth is counting down the days to the premiere of Avengers: Endgame so they can find out how the story ends. But, surprisingly, there is someone who is also waiting to find out what happens in the highly-anticipated film – star Tom Holland.
The 22-year-old plays Spider-Man, but director Joe Russo – who co-directed with his brother Anthony Russo – kept the script away from the actor because “he has a very difficult time keeping his mouth shut.”
“Yeah, Tom Holland does not get the script,” Joe told IndieWire. “Tom Holland gets his lines, and that’s it. He doesn’t even know who he’s acting opposite of. We use like, very vague terms to describe to him what is happening in the scene.” According to People Magazine, Holland has a bad reputation when it comes to spoilers. Ever since he landed the superhero role, he has accidentally spilled Marvel secrets on multiple occasions. Before the studio made the official announcement, Holland revealed that there would be two Spider-Man: Homecoming sequels.
He also told his Instagram followers that the title of the new Spider-Man movie is Spider-Man: Far From Home, but he didn’t actually write the words. Instead, he showed the film’s logo in a photo. Once again, Marvel studio had not yet announced the name of the movie. Holland also assured a theater full of fans getting ready to watch Infinity War for the first time that he was “alive,” even though they had no idea that his character died in the movie.
Last year, during the press tour for Infinity War, Benedict Cumberbatch (Dr. Strange) followed Holland closely, and many believe it was to keep tabs on him and make sure he didn’t spoil any more information.
Because of all the mistakes, the Russo brothers have had to go to great lengths to keep things hidden from Holland. The actor explained that while shooting Avengers, he had to randomly punch the air for 15 minutes because no one would tell him which character he was fighting in the scene.
Tom Holland says that he never thought something like that would happen when he took the job, but he has gotten used to it now.
Avengers: Endgame premieres in theaters nationwide on April 26th. And, Spider-Man: Far From Home will hit theaters in July.
